Perfecting Your Golf Swing Step By Step

Learning how to master your backswing can take years of skilled practice. Your goal is to get one fluid motion of grace and finesse. From the start of your backswing, through impact, to the follow through, it should be one fluid motion....

A. Why It Matters

The backswing is the initial movement of your golf club. It defines everything that follows. Therefore, it's critical to get it right!

B. The Takeaway

Once you are set up and in position to prepare for your shot, begin the backswing by moving your club slowly backwards. Keep the clubhead as close to the ground as possible.

Don't move the club too fast as this may create a steep swing plane which can reduce your power & accuracy. And, be sure that your left shoulder is slightly higher than your right one (assuming you are right-handed). Your shoulders, arms, and hips should all move together in one fluid motion.

Golf players that concentrate just on their arms & hands have a tough time learning how to hit with power consistently.

You must learn to coordinate all of your body parts to move as one. The key is not to think too much...and that's tougher than you might think!

Simply turn & feel your arms, shoulders, and upper legs all moving together in synchronicity. Just go with the flow....

C. As You Turn

Once your backswing is in motion, your body will start it's turn and your right arm should begin to fold inside. Your left arm should not be stiff, it should remain somewhat straight. Your right elbow should remain tight to your body throughout the entire backswing.

At this point, everything should be turning naturally and your weight will begin to shift.

Once your club shaft is in the air and pointing straight back, your wrists should begin to bend naturally. Don't tighten your grip. Keep it loose and casual....yet, in control at all times.

Keep turning everything gracefully until your left shoulder is underneath your chin. Your left knee will start to bend toward the right one. The club should now be in the air & positioned on top of your head. You are now ready for the downswing.

D.The Top Of Your Swing

OK. Try to avoid swinging your body at this point. Your club should be in the air & pointing towards your target line. The majority of your weight should be on your right foot, and your left knee should be bent slightly inward.

Your right knee will have a slight bend throughout the entire backswing because it serves to brace your body's power.

(Your left foot may rise slightly at the top of your backswing, but try to keep that to a minimum as it may affect your accuracy. It's better to keep your left foot grounded, if possible.)

E. Everything In Place

The moment of contact is almost here. You should feel a tremendous quantity of energy and power building up, rolled tightly in your body...just waiting to release and send the ball flying.

You should feel confident. The shoulders should be at 90 degrees & your hips should be turned to approximately 45 degrees. (These angles are not set in stone, but they are good guidelines. Every player has different levels of flexibility and technique.)

Strive to practice your backswing as often as possible. You don't need to be at the driving range or on a golf course to do so. Every chance you get, simply stand in front of a mirror to see yourself follow through with the proper technique. Get a friend to check out your backswing for constructive criticism. They can alert you to any tweaks that need to be made.

F. Coming Down

Now you are ready to drive the ball far down the fairway.

Your backswing should have felt controlled & smooth. But, you will now feel a change in tempo. You will release the downswing with full power. Make sure its graceful & easy at the same time.

The switch should appear as graceful and as seamless as possible. The best swings show no sign of using a snapping motion or force.

Unfortunately, this is where many beginner and amateur golfers divert from the pros. Their backswing was initiated perfectly, but their transition is sabotaged by a poor downswing.

G. Start From The Hips

The hips should be the very first body parts to move when bringing the club down. In fact, your entire body is getting ready to uncoil itself starting from the hips. Don't pay too much attention to your arms and hands. They will be the last body parts to turn & should do so naturally.

Once your body starts to uncoil, be sure that your weight begins to shift from your right foot to your left.

This part is crucial!

If you don't shift your weight onto your left foot, you may lose nearly 1/2 of the power and accuracy needed to make a successful shot. At first, you may need to concentrate on shifting your weight.

But, after enough practice, your body should complete the weight distribution naturally. Repetition is key.

H. Uncoil The Body & Release The Energy

When it comes to arms & hands. strive to maintain the natural bend you have in your wrists for as long as possible. They should be the last part of your body to release before hitting the ball.

If you can snap your wrists at the very last moment, you'll undoubtedly transfer more power and strength to the ball. This will drive it longer consistently.

The clubhead should now be coming down and moving faster towards the ball. Good form is essential. As the downswing gains momentum and speed, your entire body should follow through automatically, without interference.

Once the clubhead approaches the ball, you should feel like you are cracking a whip....

I. Let's Do It

Congratulations, your swing is almost there.

We've come so far!

It's now time to make contact with the ball & follow through. Just do it.

The contact you make with the ball and the direction (and loft) that it takes is determined here. If you are going for a straight shot, then the clubhead must move directly within the target line. If you want your ball to go left, then the path of the clubhead should point left, and vice versa, for the right.

Now, at first, it's not that easy to learn how to correctly steer your clubhead in relation to where you want the ball to go. This takes thousands of shots to master.

Your downswing will ultimately release power into the ball. The hands and forearms should rotate slightly counterclockwise (for right-handed golfers).

The clubhead then rotates toward the ball until it's close to perpendicular to your target line...

J. The Follow Through

Every swing results in a "follow through." This describes what your club & body does after making impact with the ball.

Although the ball is well on its way flying through the air, you still need to rotate your body & club in a smooth and graceful fashion.

Once your swing is done, your hips should be turned just enough so that your stomach area faces the target. Most of your weight should be transferred to the left foot and your right foot should be on its toes. Your back should be somewhat straight and the club wrapped around the back of your shoulders.

Here are some more tips & a few points that need repeating...

* Be sure that your head is centered over the ball as much as possible (You may allow a small amount of lateral motion if needed),

* The left arm should remain straight throughout the entire backswing. However, a small amount of bending is acceptable.

* Your left shoulder should be tucked snug underneath your chin.

* Your right arm should be folded smoothly into your side and brush across the rib cage.

* Your right knee should always maintain its bend throughout the backswing.

* Your body weight should shift considerably to the right foot when turning behind the ball.

K. Last Minute Tip

Once your body has stopped moving and your follow through is complete, practice remaining in that position for a few seconds after each shot. Not only can you watch the flight path of the ball, but if your body remains still without tilting over, it's a good sign that you maintained perfect balance & coordination with the shot.

Avoid Ill Fitted Golf Clubs

We've all found ourselves criticising our shots and swings for our performance at one stage in the past - no matter how much time and effort you invest in perfecting your golf shots - you'll never achieve your ultimate targets if you're using unsuitable or substandard golf clubs.

If you intend to purchase or receive a set of used golf clubs be sure to inspect them closely. Club-heads and shafts must show no sign of neglect from its previous owner - natural signs of wear can be expected on the grip. If purchasing a used set of from an online advertisement - don't be afraid to request emailed confirmation of the exact contents of the golf set.

More importantly research the Internet using shopping comparison websites like pricegrabber.co.uk, nextag.co.uk and shop.com for the latest prices on new golf club sets. The cost of purchasing a brand new golf set can be more cost-effective than acquiring golf clubs individually from various sources - where the addition of postage is charged per club. If you're a beginner the purchase of a new set of clubs will provide a degree of consistency and confidence - for example, the Chicago SGS golf set for beginners can be purchased in many variations including 1" shorter, ladies and men's editions - each set of clubs offering the optimal match in terms of shaft length and flex. Texan Classics produce a hybrid golf set in 1" taller (6' 1"+ over) and 1" shorter (for players under 5' 6") editions. Both brands can offer a complete set of 14 golf clubs with stand bag for under 90.

Custom fitted golf clubs can offer the most practical solution in finding the best golf clubs to match an individual's unique characteristics. Online custom fitting is the latest revolution to hit the golf industry with manufacturers like Forgan of St. Andrews - the world's oldest golf brand, offering one of the most easy-to-use custom fit services. A player simply enters the following details: gender, dexterity, height, floor to wrist height, glove size and swing speed; the website then calculates which golf clubs are best suited to their game from shaft flex to lie adjustments.

The type of golf club shaft can also help in predicting how well a player will progress in their game. Graphite and steel shafted golf clubs each possess their own characteristics -s steel shafts have always been considered to be more durable than graphite for example; like all golf equipment the key is to try out both kinds to determine which type best fits your swing. Graphite being a lighter material to steel can produce an extra 6-12 yards of distance. Steel shafts are typically recommended for players of a mid to low handicap. Graphite shafts are therefore better suited to ladies, junior and senior players - with varying degrees of flex to match the individual characteristics of each swing type. Given the increasing popularity and demand for graphite shafts - prices are typically higher compared to steel shafts.

Online retailers offer the lowest prices on graphite and steel shafted golf clubs. The Sports HQ for example supplies graphite shafted drivers from 6.99 and complete all-graphite golf sets with bag from 89.99. Junior golf sets with graphite shafts can also be purchased from 29.99.

Golf Course Magic with the Seven Iron

If you have seen "Tip Cup," a popular movie starring Kevin Costner, you should understand how important the seven iron is to the game. To the golf player, the seven iron is often thought of as the perfect golf club.

With only a seven iron and a putter, a golfer could shoot par on nearly any golf course. Now, using a seven iron for a golf drive will not result in drives of three hundred yards, but long drives are not what the seven iron was designed to do. However, depending on the golfer's strength, a quality shot with a seven iron can still go anywhere from 175 to 225 years.

Following the drive using the seven iron, the golfer then makes the approach shot. Depending on the hole's length, the golfer may want a full swing or cut his or her swing somewhat to adjust the distance the ball travels. This, again, depends on distance desired in combination with the current weather conditions which may require the golfer to put the ball either behind or in front of his or her stance. Depending on the stance, this move will either keep the ball low or give it slightly more loft.

As the golfer comes onto the green, he or she can use the seven iron as a wedge to chip the ball onto the green and can also flip the ball onto the green by closing the stance and hitting the ball in the back of the stance. The golfer will, of course, want to cut his or her swing. Otherwise, he or she will fly the green resulting in a lost stroke and possibly a lost ball.

Once the ball is chipped back onto the green, there is really little use left for the seven iron unless the golfer wants to use it as a putter. In fact, this was done in the movie "Tin Cup" but certainly is not advised for the average skilled golf player.

On short, par 3 holes, the golfer is best to use the seven iron, the best choice for this scenario. He or she can tee the ball up and hit it out of the front or back of his or her stance. Depending on the hole's length, the ball can be teed up higher for less distance but more loft. Yes, it can feel somewhat awkward for both feet to be in front of the golf ball. But, this allows the ball to be hit with more control and higher while also preventing the golfer from having too much swing and flying the green.

The truth is, a nicely hit seven iron is beautiful to watch as the ball sores through the air in a majestic arch following the intended flight pathway if struck properly. It flies through the air, landing gently on the golf course turf and brings the golfer a big smile and one step closer to a great end result to the game!

Airsoft Upgrades

New to Airsoft?

Airsoft as a sport has been around since 1950s East Asia, specifically Japan where firearms were difficult or impossible to obtain due to local laws; sought a legal alternative for enjoying their passion. Airsoft is still today most popular in several Asian regions, such as Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, and to a certain extent, the Philippines, and Indonesia. The vast majority of airsoft guns, accessories, and after market upgrade parts are also manufactured in these countries.

Airsoft participants organize meetings, either indoors or outdoors, at dedicated airsoft battlefields to play a variety of games ranging from short-term skirmishes, organized scenarios, military simulations, or historical reenactments. Combat situations on the battlefield often involve the use of common military tactics to achieve the objectives set in each game.

The guns used in a skirmish vary considerably, from SMG's (sub machine guns), assault rifles, sniper rifles and pistols. The most common type of gun found in a skirmish is an AEG or Auto-Electric-Gun, mainly due to high rate of fire and long charge time in the battery used. Airsoft guns are all too often confused with BB guns and this is something that cause damage to the reputation of the sport. A Bb Gun operate under spring, gas or pump and are capable of propelling a metal bearing at speeds approaching 1000 fps. These devices are used by some shooters as a practice weapon or to hunt fowl and small game. While an airsoft gun can operate under gas, spring or electric power and fire a 6mm plastic pellet at speeds around 300fps. The internet is obviously the primary source of information for airsoft enthusiasts and can sometimes contain inaccurate information for upgrading/downgrading guns and increasing the rate of fire of a gun.

Improve Rate of Fire & Feet Per Second of your Airsoft Gun

AirsoftPress have released a new e-book aimed at helping the average airsofter to increase the FPS and ROF of an average AEG. Put simply it is a guide on Airsoft Gun Optimization. To achieve ultra high FPS, you need to make sure the entire mechbox mechanism is optimized in such a way that the desired FPS can be produced without sacrificing ROF and battery life. High FPS performance must be achieved with practicality in mind - you should not need to trade off power with other performance factors, and the gears should not get striped too easily.

On the other hand, to achieve ultra high ROF you'll need to make sure the entire mechbox mechanism is optimized in such a way that piston movement is fast enough to produce the rate of fire desired. That means you need to use techniques to reduce the friction introduced due to fast movement, to ensure the spring can rebound fast enough after compression, and to reduce the overall workload of the gears and the motor.

The primary goal of this guide is to help you improve FPS and ROF in a cost effective way. Different mechbox modification techniques are covered. Additionally, the issues of air tightness and battery configuration which are outside of the mechbox but are still highly relevant to the overall airsoft AEG performance are also addressed. The goal of proper air sealing is to fill every gap along the air flow path to minimize air leakage and create an efficient environment for propelling BBs out of the barrel. We teach you how to maximize air seal at the two most critical areas along the air flow path, which are the cylinder set (from piston to air nozzle) and the Barrel / Hopup set. The correct voltage on which an AEG motor is required to operate is critical. Every motor model is unique. Different models have different operating characteristics. In general, a 5% decrease in voltage can often translate into a 10% decrease in motor torque. The goal of this section is to help you determine the correct type of battery pack to use for your AEG, as well as to teach you the corresponding charging techniques. Many Airsoft dealers are using the Airsoft publications as reference guides when repairing broken AEG's. The beauty of being able to repair or tweak your own Airsoft gun is that you save money on repair services and have the satisfaction of repairing your own gun.

Grooved Golf Swing Series - How To Deal With Difficult Lies

Sometimes your ball will come to a stop on top of pine
needles or leaves. There is no firm ground immediately
beneath the ball and if you ground your club behind the
ball there is a big danger of causing the ball to move.

This of course is a penalty and you have to add one more
stroke to your score. Similarly when you have a piece of
twig beneath the ball or touching the ball. Don't try to
move it because you may move your ball. Now back to the
leaves or pine needles.

When you take your stance, make sure you do not ground your
club. Doing so may move the delicate surface on which the
ball lies and cause your ball to move. Take your stance
with the club head held above the surface and make your
swing.
Sweep the ball off the surface, hitting down on the
ball less than usual.

Because you are making such a swing,
you will cause the ball to fly lower than usual and so it
will fly and run further. You have to allow for this.

Now what about if you have to pitch the ball out of the
leafy or pine needle lie. How do you do that? How many
times have you duffed your ball or seen others do this from
such a lie?
The way to play your ball from this lie when
you need to get your ball up fast is to play an explosion
shot. Play it as though you are in a bunker.

Use the same club you would use if your ball were in a bunker
here instead of on leaves, and hit down and through the ball
using an open club face.
As in sand the ball will need to be hit a little harder than for
a normal shot to attain the desired distance.

Now you are in a fairway bunker miles from the green.

There is an easy way to play this shot and a not so easy way.
In both instances you have the hit the ball first.

If you hit the sand behind the ball you will not succeed.
One way is to try to pick the ball off the surface of the sand.
Some can do this - sometimes - and many try and fail.

The easy way is to play your ball off your right foot
(right handers) and keeping your head still and watching
the ball, take a normal swing and hit down on the ball.

It is much easier to hit the ball first - before the sand - if
you use this method.
Because you have hit the ball first,
it is compressed enough between club and sand to achieve
the desired effect, and the ball will fly a long way. Give
it a try. You will surprise yourself and be very pleased.

One thing though. Because you are playing your ball well
back, you will reduce the loft of the club you are using.
Therefore you will need a club with a bit more loft if you
have a high lip in front of you.

Finding NYC Tee Times

If you are seeking significant discounts on new york city golf tee times, you'll be glad to know that most of the golf courses in and around the Big Apple maintain websites through which you can book new york city golf tee times in advance at substantial savings.

The discounts on new york city golf tee times can vary, particularly in terms of what is available. Usually, you are able to reserve an approximate tee time only (these are usually timed to begin every five to ten minutes).

When you book new york city golf tee times over the World Wide Web, the course or country club may offer various extras that include a sleeve of golf balls. A golf cart is not usually included in the greens fee (although it may be). In any event, when you reserve new york city golf tee times online in advance, you'll need to print out a copy of your reservation and present it at the pro shop when you arrive for your game.

Be aware that like any commodity, new york city golf tee times are subject to market forces; how much you'll pay is determined by how much demand there is for a particular time slot. Such reservations are granted on a "first come first served" basis, and some new york city golf tee times are in more demand than others. Saturday mornings are extremely popular, and may command greens fees that are twice those charged for a Tuesday afternoon, for example.

The other issue to be aware of is the fact that new york city golf tee times cannot usually be canceled, and any fees you may have paid in advance are usually non-refundable. The exception is if inclement weather prevents play, in which case you'll need to contact the course or country club by telephone. If you cannot get a refund, you can at least have your new york city golf tee times changed.

You'll also want to do some comparison shopping when booking new york city golf tee times. These times vary from one location to another. Some courses and clubs offer more extras than others, and the fees themselves also vary - sometimes dramatically - from one course to another.

A number of these websites also require a credit card for confirmation of your reservation, although others accept payment at the time of arrival for the game.

Those who are planning a vacation or business trip in the NYC area and hope to play a few rounds may also wish to look into package deals that offer discounted lodging near golfing facilities.

Become A Better Golfer By Quickly Improving Your Golf Swing By Going Back To The Basics

If you look around, it's easy to find dozens of tricks, some of them quite ridiculous, for improving your swing. In fact the best way to improve your swing is to go back to basics. So let's review some of those.

Stance and Ball Position

As a general rule of thumb, your feet should be about the same width apart as your shoulders. If you're using a short iron, move them a little closer together, for long irons and wedges, slightly further apart. Imagine a line between your position and the target, and aim the club along that line, sometimes called the target line. You need to position your body parallel to the target line, and the line between your shoulders must be perpendicular to the clubface. The ball is teed correctly when you're driving if the top of the ball is slightly above the head of the club. When putting, the putter's face should also be perpendicular to the target line.

Grip and Wrists

Make sure your grip is firm, but still relaxed. Control is more important than strength. If you want to create maximum impact at the proper angle, then it's essential to get your wrist position correct. That will do more to achieve distance than sheer brute strength. It's very easy to allow the lead wrist to collapse on impact, so you need to firm up your wrists. You can do this by taking a club and raising it just using your wrist, holding your arm at your side. Hold the club with the toe parallel to the ground and keep it there for at least five seconds. It's a lot harder than it sounds! Repeat the exercise until you can feel that you've been using your forearm, but don't persist if it hurts. Change arms and do it again. It can also be helpful to take some swing with only one hand and arm. It might feel a bit strange, and it won't necessarily improve your swing as it's such a different movement, but it can do a lot to help you develop control.

Position You Body Correctly

Stand in the normal stance and position you use before swinging (often called your normal address). Place a club across your shoulders, then pretend to make a back swing in your normal manner. Have someone watching, and check to make sure your club ends up pointing four feet or more beyond the ball.

Golf Swing Drills

The basis of any good swing is a type of rotational movement. What you're aiming to do is keep in the same plan on the downswing and you're in during the back swing. Imagine a big circle balancing on top of the ball and in line with the target line. Your club needs to follow the same arc as the bottom half of that circle throughout the entire swing.

Spend some time practicing your back swing to downswing movement, stopping your club at the point of impact to make sure the clubface is in the correct position, which is perpendicular to the target line. If you find the clubface is open, your right forearm has rotated too much (the left if you're left handed).

Place a line of tees in the ground, and practice swinging at each one, before moving forward to the next. With some practice, you should find you're consistently clipping the middle of the tee and still remaining in the correct swing plane.

Rhythm and Balance

The final things you need for a good swing is rhythm and balance. If you've watched a great golfer, then you probably know exactly what I'm talking about, because all the greats have beautiful rhythm. It's essential for a consistently good swing. However good rhythm can't happen without good balance and vice-versa.

The easiest place to start is with the static elements of your swing - proper positioning and stance. Balance is linked in to all the dynamic elements of the swing, and rhythm and balance need to be maintained through the entire swing.

Take your time and make sure you're not rushing through the swing. Your weight should be evenly distributed between your right and left feet, and the spine tilted away from the target at address. Once you're ready, take a smooth pull back and easy swing down.

It can be helpful to have a friend practice with you. As you take a few swings, your friend should gently push you, first between the shoulder blades, then the lower back, one shoulder then the other. You should feel the pressure but still be able to remain upright. The whole motion of the swing should remain smooth, and once you've done some practice, your back swing and downswing should feel as effortless as a well-oiled machine.

Dunlop Golf MRH Loco Gloves

The Dunlop LoCo Golf Glove gives you optimum comfort, no matter what the weather. Made of 100-percent premium leather, this glove dries fast and stays soft even after repeated usage. Its custom fit and breathability make it a pleasure to wear. Features:
  • 100% Premium Cabretta Leather
  • Soft Feel
  • Comfortable Fit
  • Superior Quality

  • If any of your friends or family are golfers, you may wonder what kind of present you could give them. It can be hard to choose, but, if you know how interested the player is, and how experienced they are, then you can make the selection process a little easier.

There are some golf gifts that any golfer will appreciate. If you can get someone vouchers for a round at their favorite course, then they will most certainly enjoy that. Usually, vouchers are good for a round of 18 holes, but many courses will allow them to be used in batches of 9, making them ideal gifts for even casual golfers. If you are buying vouchers, make sure that you buy them at the right rate if your friend qualifies for a certain discount, often vouchers will be available at that rate too.

Another great gift for golf lovers are golf balls. Golf Balls are another of the many golf gifts that most players will enjoy. Bear in mind that the recipient may be partial to a specific brand ball. Nevertheless, if you give someone the gift of golf balls, there is an excellent chance they will appreciate them and use them. You should know that there are different compression ratings for golf balls and they are used in different weather, but these details may not be crucial for your weekend hobby golfer. Just make sure that you don't buy your male friends what may be considered to be women's golf balls.

    Let Them Choose

If you are thinking of buying golf clubs, then perhaps you should reconsider. They are a very personal choice, and most golfers would prefer to test out the clubs themselves, and select them based on their own preferences. A gift certificate for a sports store would be much better than spending money on clubs that are unlikely to get used. Either ask them what set of clubs they would like, or give them a gift certificate, and let them choose their own.

Another golf gift that would be most welcome would be a towel that hangs on their bag to wipe their hands or club heads. A ball retriever would also be generally acceptable by everyone. They can be very handy and are used when fishing balls from water hazards. And for youngsters who may want to surprise Dad with a golf gift, a bag of wood tees would always be welcomed by any golfer.

You could also think about getting them a range finder, a stroke counter, or some other score keeping device, or some golf clothing such as gloves or a cap. There are lots of great golf gifts out there, you just need to find out what they already have, and what they may be interested in. The fact that you have chosen to take an interest in their hobby and selected an interesting gift for them will stand for itself, and they are sure to appreciate whatever you pick out for them.

    Dunlop Sport 408 DI

Dunlop Sport 408 DI Golf Balls : Dunlop Sport 409 DI Golf Balls have a low dimple pattern that offers better feel and deters excessive spin, which is perfect for preventing hooks and slices.

The F1 season with all its glitz and glamour might have started in earnest recently, with the running of the Australian Grand Prix; but for many motor-sports enthusiasts, the real thrills of motor-racing can be found much closer to home with the British Touring Car Championship (or BTCC), due to get underway at the end of March.

It's well known that F1 is a millionaire's sport - the cars are the result of millions of pounds of technical research; the drivers are paid a king's ransom, and both the teams and drivers are subject to multi-million pounds sponsorship deals by global corporations. Money talks in F1 and purists argue that the sport isn't competitive anymore, as races are now won and lost in the pit-lane, rather than on the track, while the larger teams such as McLaren and Ferrari spend the kind of money that the smaller teams such as Super Aguri can only dream about.

Recent years has seen the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) flourish in terms of both competing teams and spectator numbers. The sport itself operates on a fraction of the budget afforded to the F1 world; yet what it lacks in glamour, it more than makes up for in thrills! The BTCC season comprises of ten rounds - beginning and ending at Brands Hatch - held between March and September, and visiting nine different circuits. Each round consists of three races, making a thirty round competition.

The teams which compete in the BTCC are a mixture of manufacturers' works teams (currently SEAT and Vauxhall are the only manufacturer teams) and independent teams such as Team Halfords and Team RAC. The independent teams usually comprise of ex-works cars which have been purchased from manufacturer teams when they update their own cars' chassis. While this then might appear to give the 'new' cars an edge, as works teams can provide expert motoring advice about new developments surrounding their entries; there are in fact strict limits to modifications that can be made to any competing car in order to keep costs down and elicit an element of fairness in the sport. For example, all competing cars have to use the same tyre - called a 'control tyre' - which currently is supplied by Dunlop. Cars can also be modified to use different fuel types, with recent cars having run on liquefied petroleum gas, bio-ethanol fuel and even diesel, which made its first appearance in a BTCC race in 2007.

Races in the BTCC calendar are normally run over a weekend. Saturday comprises of two practice sessions, followed by a half-hour qualifying session which determines the first race grid for the Sunday. Like F1, the grid is sorted by time with the fastest driver lining up in pole position. Depending on the length of the racing circuit, each race will normally consist of between 16 and 25 laps, and the race result then determines the grid order for the next race with the drivers lining up according to their finishing position for race two.

For race three, starting positions are determined by a 'draw' which sees part of the grid reversed. This means that depending on the draw, drivers who finished in the minor placings could start in pole position. For example, if position 6 was drawn, the driver who finished in 6th place would be given pole position, with 5th place in second position and so on. Drivers who finished above the 'draw' result would occupy the position where they finished race two.

Also, at the end of the first and second races, the cars which finish in the major placings are handicapped by having additional weight - known as ballast - added to them for the next race at the meeting. Drivers' standings after the third race of each meeting also determine the amount of ballast to be carried in the first race of the following meeting.

There are some aspects of BTCC which are shared with F1; for example the safety car and pit lane speed limits. However, unlike F1, spare cars cannot be used, and teams can only use a maximum of 4 engines per season per driver. If additional engines are used, teams are subject to point deductions.

All this adds up to some fantastic thrills on the racetrack as the rules make racing much more competitive and open, with cars' technological advantages negated by additional weight or luck of the draw. Collisions are commonplace in BTCC as drivers push their cars - and themselves - to the limit throughout each race; it isn't uncommon to witness high-speed collisions involving multiple cars, while the attempts to equalise the cars means overtaking manoeuvres can occur anywhere throughout the race - even on the tightest of corners!

So, while the F1 world buys its thrills, motor-sports enthusiasts can rest easy; safe in the knowledge that BTCC thrills come free with the package.

Today, more and more goods are bought on line than ever before. Some of the major reasons for this are; cheaper prices than the high street stores, an on line store can have a larger inventory - more choice; and the internet is becoming more accepted and trusted by consumers.

Golf equipment is no exception to the rule; everything from full sets of golf clubs, golf balls, golf bags, and golf apparel. Even buying shoes on line is becoming more popular.

Some people, though, like to physically touch or try the products before buying. They argue that, especially with shoes, they need to try them on first and walk about the store to see if they are a good fit and comfortable.

One way to overcome this hurdle is to go to your local golf equipment store and try on a few of the brands that you are interested in buying. Once you know the brand, style, and size of the shoes you can then compare prices on line.

I think that you will find that when buying shoes on line you will be able to save money and you will probably find more choice in colors and styles. You will probably find that, if you want to buy Footjoy womens golf shoes, you will need the same size whether you choose Custom DryJoys, LoPro Active, MyJoys Custom Contour, GreenJoys, or Reelfit.

All of the on line golf stores will stock the most popular shoes, including; Adidas, Bite, Callaway Golf, Dexter, Ecco, Etonic, Footjoy, Nike, and Oakley. Also, I have seen on line stores that stock up to 500 styles of shoes and as many closeout models.

Other on line stores stock harder to find brands like; Cotswold, Cougar, Golfstream, Sandbaggers, Tehama, Dunlop, Helle Comfort, Stuburt, and Lady Fairway golf shoes. Even Swedish fashion designer, J. Lindeberg has a collection of exclusive shoes developed in collaboration with Puma.

Another benefit of buying shoes on line is that, apart from the choice in brands and styles, you will find almost every size available. You can buy odd size golf shoes, sizes from 4 up to 18, and different widths. You have to shop around though; some brands specialize in the lower number sizes while others have more choice in the higher sizes.

If you are looking for cheap golf shoes, you will find most on line stores have a collection of closeout, on sale or clearance shoes, sometimes for under $50 for top brand names. Mostly all the on line stores have discounts on every shoe they sell - a lot of them can do this because they don't have to maintain physical stores and so there costs are cheaper.

On line golf stores sometimes have free shipping on orders over $50 or $100; ample return policies, 100% customer satisfaction guarantees, and great customer service. So, there really is no excuse not to give them a try.

So, I am sure if you are looking to buy shoes on line, you will find what you are looking for at the price you are willing to pay. Whether you prefer Adidas Traxion, Tour 360, Powerband, or maybe Nike Air Max, Challenge, or SP-8 golf shoes size 13; you are sure to find them on line.

    Dunlop Mini-Squash Foam Squash Ball - Dozen - T913209

Golfing in the Phoenix sunshine makes it a suitable year-round activity for the whole family. You can book Phoenix city golf tee times easily online. You will also see offers for discount Phoenix golf, so that it will be easy for you to enjoy your favorite game often. The game of golf comes with its own jargon, and understanding a bit of that lexicon can make the game much easier to understand.

There are many specific terms for the wide variety of poor shots, for example. A chili dip happens when a golfer chips too short. A wormburner or groundhog killer is a shot when the ball is hit low across the ground, which can cause it to bounce quickly along the surface. If you want to break the rules you might do a foot wedge, when you kick your ball into a better spot. You'll get quite embarrassed if you miss the ball entirely after you swing at it. This event can be called a whiff shot.

If you are new to the game of golf, you might hear more experienced and even professional players using some different terms. A bandit is a player who has a high handicap but plays better than you would expect. After a stroke is taken toward the green, you might hear a golfer say bit, or take a seat, meaning that they want the ball to stop or slow. Not surprisingly, a putting green can also be called the dance floor, and the rough can go by the names of jungle, brillo, or bundi. If a golfer makes a shot where the ball speeds past the hole instead of going in, they call that a taxi.

You can try out all of these useful and colorful words on any of the glorious golf courses that Phoenix has to offer. If you want a challenging day out on the course, head over to Superstition Springs Golf Club. Golfweek Magazine has named it to a list of America's Best Golf Courses, and it offers a number of unique hazards, including water features, large bunkers, and a great deal of rolling ground, adding to both the fun and beauty of this lovely golf course. On the other hand, if Arnold Palmer is one of your golfing heroes, you will not want to miss an opportunity to play at the course that the great man himself designed, the Legend at Arrowhead. Interesting topography is featured at the Glen Lakes Golf Course. It includes pine and palm trees, with the addition of three pristine lakes, that come into play as you travel about this fabulous nine-hole executive course. All of these golf courses and more await you in Phoenix.

Customer Review: Great shoes and a great price
They fit well, look good and perform well and were a fraction of the cost of most golf shoes. What else is there to say?

Whats the one shot most players would like to add to their game for lower scores? If you answered a high, soft shot within about 60 yards of the green I think youd be right. Most mid to high handicap players want to know how to master the lob wedge.

From time to time youll be faced with shots that require high carries over bunkers or water hazards to tight pin positions. You could certainly hit those shots with an open faced sand wedge, but a lob wedge makes it much easier. Lob wedges are used most commonly when players need very high trajectories and a lot of spin.

A good lob wedge can make all the difference

Lob wedges come in lofts ranging from about 58* to 61*, and some super lob wedges come in lofts from 62* to 65*. Because of its wide sole the lob wedge is sometimes used for high, soft sand shots.

The problem some of us run into is the low bounce angle on some lob wedges. With their high lofts, low bounce lob wedges can become like shovels and I see a lot of players taking huge divots with them.

In the hands of a skilled player a lob wedge adds versatility and a new dimension to the short game. If youre looking to add a lob wedge to your set but dont have much experience with one, follow these guidelines before making a purchase

First, look for lob wedges with no more than 60* of loft. The higher the loft the harder it is to master.

Second, narrow your choices down to wedges with a bounce angle of at least 8*. Bounce angles of 10* to 13* are preferable.
Why? Added bounce makes it easier to play without digging too deeply into the turf.

Another benefit? More bounce makes it useful as a sand wedge. A low bounce lob wedge can be a tricky play from the sand.

Develop your technique for more effective wedge shots

Whats one of the biggest stumbling blocks to hitting the lob wedge? Confidence. Its easy to tighten up and that limits your range of motion. The lob requires a soft touch; anxiety makes taking a good pass at the ball more difficult.

It is possible to master the high soft wedge shot. Use these keys to help groove the right swing:

  • Keep your weight evenly balanced between your feet. Dont play the ball too far forward or too far backward in your stance.
  • Take a three quarter swing; dont take the club past parallel.
  • Try to feel your hands leading the clubhead at impact.
  • Make sure you keep accelerating through the ball.

The lob wedge does work in the right situations

The lob wedge is the right club when youre faced with shots that require high trajectories and very soft landings. For flying over hazards and bunkers a lob wedge is a necessity.

Unless you need that extra carry, think twice before using a lob wedge. Harvey Penick was an advocate of chipping the ball whenever possible. He felt using lower lofts to get the ball rolling as soon as possible was the best way to get closer to the hole.

You can easily prove this for yourself. Stand off the green about 40 feet from the hole. Try these two methods and see which gets the ball closer. First, lob the ball to the hole with a high trajectory. Then roll the ball to the hole, getting it on ground as soon as possible.

My guess is youll get it a lot closer by rolling it like a billiard ball. When you put a lob wedge in your bag, use it when you really need to. I see a lot of players trying to lob the ball when they might do better chipping it.

An extra wedge also changes set make-up

Adding the lob wedge means you have to make a decision about which clubs to keep in your 14 club rotation. Most players drop a long iron in favor of the added wedge.

    What are the advantages?

Thats easy. Multi-wedge sets let you take full swings on tough yardage shots. Its easier to make full swings with a more lofted club than to make partial swings with a less lofted club. A full swing builds confidence, and increases distance control. A good lob wedge can help you avoid an awkward situation when youre between clubs.

    Summing things up

Adding a lob wedge makes you more effective from within 60 yards of the pin. When you miss greens, youre faced with short shots that require high carries. In many cases the lob wedge will be your only effective weapon.

Choose a wedge with the right loft and bounce angle, then take some time to get accustomed to the higher loft. Your one swing thought should be to accelerate through impact. Do that, and hitting high, soft wedge shots becomes a lot easier.

Men's Dunlop Addison Golf Shoes - New Closeout Model

The Dunlop Addison golf shoes feature the following:
  • Water resistant synthetic leather upper
  • Durable rubber outsole
  • Helical spike system which delivers confidence and sure footing in all weather conditions

When you are 90 yards out from the green, or closer, do you ever notice that your pitch shots are not crisp, they run along the ground or do not travel the required distance to rise in the air and land softly beside the hole?

The first thing to do is have a look at your grip.

This is number one on your check list.
However, I doubt if this will be the problem.

Next have a look at your swing and see if it is too full.

If it is too full, you will decelerate on your down swing.
This is because you know a full swing will go too far.
As a result you will try to compensate by hitting the ball more gently.

The only way you can do this is to decelerate if the back swing is too full.
This means that you are not hitting your golf shot with the correct firmness or authority.

You will have to correct this on the practice fairway.

Start with a short distance and see if you can achieve this with a minimum of swing.

You will have to hit the ball quite hard to achieve what you are trying to do.
This means firmness, crispness and authority.
    This is what you want.

Try to get the feel of this and take it out onto the course.

Next try to hit the ball different distances using the same technique.

Move to the nine iron from your pitching wedge when the distance is so great that you have to strain and lose accuracy.

Pretend your golf club is the big hand of a clock.
Find out how far the ball travels when you take your club back to 8, 9, 10, 11 o clock while hitting with the same firmness and authority.

Dunlop Loco Jr Putter (Right-Handed, Age 3-5)

The perfect golf swing drill is a joy to behold. And yet it is not too hard to achieve.

The perfect golf swing drill starts with a proper back swing with the golf club swung right back to the limit of your body. At this segment of the perfect golf swing drill your mind should be preparing for the rotation of your body and the arm extension.

Next, the movements of the perfect golf swing drill moves to the down swing, which starts with the lower part of the body, including the legs and hips. A transfer of weight will take place from back to front with the knees, thighs and hips all moving forward.

The perfect golf swing drill ends with the body weight on the outside of the front heel and the inside of the rear foot.

Perfect golf swing drill is easy when your body is prepared and conditioned to achieve it. However perfect golf swing drill can be very difficult for a golfer not involved in any golf specific exercise designed to condition and prepare their muscles and body in general for the strain and pressure that golf usually brings.

Most professionals take their golf-specific exercises very seriously, but some amateurs are reluctant to let go of the so-called good old days when exercise had no role in the leisure sport of golf. Still they are finding the going increasingly difficult as more and more golfers embrace golf exercise programs.

There is no doubt that the perfect golf swing drill happens only with those whose muscles and bodies have been prepared.

The number of golf ball manufacturers grew steadily in the last century, especially during the later half. Originally, there were only a few brands like Precept that held most of the market. It should be made clear that towards the beginning of the twentieth century, golf wasn't that popular a sport, the way it is today. Demand for golf balls and accessories therefore, grew much later. Now, as the demand for golf balls along with other golf equipments increased so, did the number of golf ball manufacturers, competing with each other for a stronger presence in the market. The market grew so rapidly that the number of ball manufacturers burgeoned in a few years. Although, many of the new firms, like in other spheres of production, had to shut down later but still the number of manufacturers that now existed was many times the number that existed before.

Nowadays, with the sport still on its upward climb in terms of popularity, the manufacturer list has become quite long. This has been a beneficial development for customers as they now have a wider range to choose from. In fact, the fierce competition among golf ball manufacturers has considerably brought down the prices. Besides, the new manufacturers are also coming out with deliberate attempts at making cheaper balls aimed for amateurs and golfers who might use them for practice sessions.

Some of the major manufacturers of golf balls today are namely, Ben Hogan Golf, Bridgestone Golf (parent company of Precept), Callaway Golf, Dunlop Sports, Hippo (largest golf equipment manufacturer in Europe), Jazz Golf (largest Canadian golf manufacturing company), Kasco Golf, Maxfli (a division of TaylorMade), Nike Golf, Ping Golf, Pinnacle, Precept , Pro-Curio Golf, Srixon, TaylorMade Golf, Titleist (most famous name in golf equipment and is the leading ball company as well), Top-Flite / Strata (a division of Callaway), Vulcan Golf, Wilson Golf, and Yonex.

It happens to all of us, even though we do not want to admit it. The reality is we all get older. Some of you may already know what I am talking about, and others may have yet to experience the phenomenon of aging. Those of you who are reading this article and are no longer spring chickens get my drift. Even if you are one of the lucky ones, still young, let me fill you in on what happens as the body gets a few miles on it.

Probably the biggest thing that we all dislike when we creep into our thirties and forties is the extra poundage (i.e. weight) we tend to put on. (It is also a lot harder to take off when we get older.) Unfortunately, because our metabolism slows down, we are unable to pound down a burger, fries, and a couple of cokes without the bathroom scale hitting tilt a few days later. In my mind, that probably is the most difficult adjustment we have to make: an adjustment in our nutrition intake as we age.

The second most noticeable difference as we age, especially for the more active individual, is it becomes a little more difficult to get out of bed. The back is a little sore, the knees are a little creaky, and, if you workout, the soreness does not go away as quickly. This is a result of a few things that happen to our bodies when we get older. Number one is we lose a percentage of our muscle mass on a yearly basis. After the age of 25 (dont quote me on the specifics, but I believe) about 1% of your muscle mass is lost per year. Makes sense now why we get a little sorer and getting out of bed is more difficult. We simply do not have as much muscle to do the work.

I could go on and on with the depressing facts of aging, but let us look at just one more before moving on. As you get older you become less flexible. It takes you a lot longer to limber up for any sporting activity: golf, tennis, or a pick up game of basketball. Less flexibility predisposes you to experience more difficulty with certain movements: touching your toes, rotating during a golf swing, or even reaching down to pick something up off the ground. Why does this occur? Our bodies, as a result of wear and tear, become more tight and wound up as we get older.

So there you have it! Some of the great things to look forward to as you get older (kidding of course). So if youre in your twenties and youre reading this article, enjoy it while it lasts, because the road gets a little more difficult to travel as you get older. But, if youre beyond your twenties, I am sure you can relate to the general results of aging in relation to your golf game. Quite simply, extra pounds decrease your stamina (and may affect your swing plane). Less muscle equals less distance off the tee, and decreased flexibility tends to make the turn in the golf swing much harder to perform. An unfortunate situation, but the good news is that we can slow down the aging process and limit the effects of aging on your golf game.

Slowing Down the Aging Process for the Golf Swing

I have given you a little carrot of information that we can slow down the aging process. How do we do it? It is actually quite simple and only requires a little time out of each day (15-20 minutes) and a little discipline. Sounds pretty easy when you think of all the benefits you stand to gain. What we are going to do is provide you some answers on how to slow down the aging process. Remember we cant stop the aging process, but we can sure slow it down. The benefits of slowing down the aging process are evident when you see guys in their 50s winning tour events. It just takes a little time, some knowledge, and discipline. If you are saying, I dont have the time, let me ask you one question: How would you like to feel 10 years younger right now and hit the ball farther then you did in your twenties? I imagine the answer to both of those questions would be a resounding yes!

Let us start with the first topic that we described when you get older, the additional pounds. Unfortunately, as you age your metabolism slows down. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the word metabolism, think of it as your own internal furnace. It is the rate at which you burn fuel (food is fuel to the human body). When we are younger we tend have faster metabolisms, and as we get older they slow down. (I know it is a bummer.) Well, let me tell you, there are activities to speed that metabolism back up. The way to do it is by performing some fitness activities. If you are active and participate in some type of structured activity your body will burn more fuel and elevate its metabolism during this time. In addition, if these activities are resistance-training activities (i.e. weights, tubing, light dumbbells, body weight), then over time you will build some muscle. The great thing about that is the more muscle you have the higher your metabolism will be all the time (translation: you will burn more fuel all day and night). A secondary benefit of such activities will be greater stamina on the course. So rather than spraying your shots around on the back nine because youre tired, you can have pinpoint accuracy going into the 18th.

Moving on to our second point, the loss of muscle mass as you age, this one is a tough one to swallow. Just think, we actually LOSE muscle as we age. Pretty depressing. The good news is it can be limited or stopped. Before I give you the solution, lets look at how this affects your golf swing. Essentially, in the golf swing you create club head speed. That club head speed is the result of creating rotational power, which we define as torque. To create torque, the muscles of the body have to be flexible, strong, and powerful. Now guess what? If you have less muscle, what do you think is going to happen to your power outputs and club head speed? The answer is they will decrease. No wonder they make senior shafts with a lot of flex. This is the golf manufacturers attempt to deal with this problem. It helps to a point, but we have a better solution. How about putting something in your bag that makes you stronger, improves your power, and gets back that lost distance? Sounds good? Well, it can be done if you implement a golf-specific strength-training program. You can get back that lost muscle mass, get back that power, and improve your driving distance. This is what we call the development of golf strength, and it can be done with a program that takes a total of 15 minutes a day!

Finally, moving on to the flexibility issue, our bodies lose flexibility as we age. Flexibility is a must when it comes to the golf swing. Here is what happens when you do not work on your flexibility. A loss of flexibility in the golf swing limits the ability of the body to perform the correct actions to create the proper swing. Essentially, your body wont allow you to take the club back and through on the correct swing path. This leads to miss hits, slices, hooks, and a whole bunch of other shots that are very unpleasant. So how do we fix this problem or not allow it to become a problem? The answer is to implement a golf-specific flexibility program. This again requires a daily commitment, but the time frame is very little (say 5 minutes a day). So again, ask yourself: Is it worth spending 5 minutes a day on flexibility to have the golf swing you would like? I bet most of you would answer yes.

Well, there you have the pleasures, displeasure, joys, and sorrows of the aging process. We all get older, but there are things we can do to prevent the displeasures and sorrows. If we take a little time every day and perform the proper exercises and activities, we can reduce the effects of aging and have a great swing for as long as we like.

Dunlop Foremost Women's Complete Golf Package

This is the perfect set for the lady who is just picking up the game or the casual golfer. Set includes a Driver, hybrid, 4 irons, putter and a lightweight stand bag. This set is also perfect for the junior golfer who is 4' 10" and taller.

A good golf swing is something which many golfers hanker after. It can be something which you could spend your whole time while you are playing, worrying about. You may feel that your shots are not hard or accurate enough and then the worry of this makes you feel more stressed when hitting the ball.

This will tighten the muscles and make your attitude not positive enough and you are likely to get worse and worse as the game progresses. Your muscles will tire more quickly from the stress of it all and you are likely to feel disappointed and exhausted by the end of the round of golf which is not a good way to finish a potentially relaxing and exhilarating game.

You may think that you have tried many different solutions and nothing seems to work. Do not give up though. The reason that the techniques are not working is probably because they are not concentrating in the right areas. Many training programs look at posture and positioning and teach you techniques.

Although there is some use in this, if your muscles are not string enough to allow you to carry out the positions and techniques properly then you will find it is a waste of time trying them. By working on toning these muscle groups you will build up the strength and flexibility that you will need in order to apply the correct positioning and getting a good golf swing will become a reality rather than just a vague dream.

Girls' Dunlop LoCo Right-Hand Starter Golf Set - Pink (5-8 yrs.)

This is actually the second round of golf for the 2007 year and was played on March 30, 2007. I usually play once a week during the golfing year and am around a bogey golfer. I have not ever calculated a handicap as I am not that serious a golfer. I enjoy being out in the open away from everything and getting fresh air. I normally golf with 2 other co-workers who dont keep score and dont necessarily follow golfing etiquette or rules.

The first hole is a par 4. We will be using the orange tees, which are one less than the longest blue tees. Later in the year, we will start hitting from the long tees once we get into the season. This hole is about 400 yards straight south with a slight slope down to the green. The handicap on this hole is a 5, so this is the 5th hardest hole on the course. This may be due to the fact that normal winds would be from the south, so you would be hitting into that wind. Today, there is not much wind to speak of at the first tee.

OK, before we tee off, the group ahead of us must be either really bad or just started golfing. The group is teeing off from the blue tees and at least half of them didnt make it past the womens tee box. This might be a long round. To show how serious we are, the first joke at the tee goes like this: After the golfer hit his shot only 20 yards off the tee, the fellow golfer immediately noted the obvious problem. He stated that his fellow duffer was standing too close to the golf ball after he hit it. Think about it for a second and you will get it.

I used a driver off the tee. I have a discount, clone golf driver that has a loft of 9.5 degree. It was fitted to me, and I finally figured out how to hit it early last year. I drove it right down the center in the fairway about 250 yards. This left me with 150 yards to the pin, down hill. My 8 iron is my 150 yard club, so this was an ideal spot for me. I hit the golf ball pin high, but off the green to the left about 45 feet. I used a pitching wedge to within 15 feet of the golf hole and two putted. This gave me a bogey for the hole. Average for me, but I felt I was in good position off the drive. I had a little draw on my 8-iron and this took the ball off the left side of the green.

Hole number 2 is another par 4 that is a dog leg left. It is about 390 yards long and handicapped as the third hardest hole on the golf course. I used a 3 wood off the tee and pushed it a little to the right off the fairway in the rough. Again, this left me about 150 yards out. I again went to my 8 iron, but ended up short in the sand bunker guarding the front of the green. My sand play is not the best, so I am always disappointed to be in the sand. I again didnt hit my 8 iron well, but it was on line to the pin. I hit out of the sand bunker with my sand wedge past the pin about 23 feet. I putted to 8 feet, then putted 3 feet past and then holed it on the third putt. This gave me a double bogey, which was really a disappointment, again. I was out in the nice weather, though, so it wasnt all bad.

Hole number 3 is a short par 4 with a dog leg right just at the end of the fairway and guarded by water on the right in front of the green. It is handicapped at 11 for the course. I used a 3 iron off the tee to stay short of the water and hopefully give myself about 130 to 150 yards to the green. I ended up on the right side of the fairway about 136 yards out. Just what I was planning! This is just right for a hard 9 iron, so that is what I pulled from the golf bag. Unfortunately, I put 2 straight in the water. The third ended up about 40 feet from the hole on the green. I putted to within 2 feet and then putted in the hole. By my calculation, I took a 7 for a triple bogey. Real disappointment, but I played from the tee exactly like I wanted and putted well.

The next hole is number 4 and is a par 3 about 130 yards long. The handicap on this hole is a 17, so plays quite easy. I used a 9 iron and hit the green within 21 feet of the pin. Putted to within 2 feet and putted in for a par! Now things are looking up.

Hole number 5 is a par 5 about 415 yards long and is handicapped at number 9. I used my driver and hit the cart path which gave me a little extra distance. I ended up about 150 yards from the pin, but behind some trees. I used my 8 iron and hit a branch, but ended up in the middle of the fairway about 75 yards out. I used my pitching wedge and ended up on the right side of the green, but on within 26 feet of the pin. Putted to within 7 feet, then putted 3 feet past. Putted it in and took a bogey. I need to get my putting stroke down.

The next hole is number 6. It is a par 4 about 350 yards long. It is handicapped at number 13. I used my driver and muffed it out to the left rough with about 220 yards to go to the hole. I used a 6 iron to about 50 yards out. A sand wedge got me to the left edge of the green and a 32 foot putt. Putted to 3 feet and then in for another bogey.

Number 7 is a 320 yard par 4 and handicapped at 15. I used a driver and hit to within about 50 yards of the green right in the middle of the fairway! A pitching wedge ended up about 2 foot off the front of the green. Putted to within 1 foot of the hole and tapped in for my first par of the round!

Hole number 8 is a par 3 about 167 yards long and over a ditch. It is handicapped at number 7. I used a 4 iron into a slight breeze. The tee shot ended up off the right side of the green about 40 yards out in the rough just past pin high. I used a sand wedge and landed on the green about 40 foot from the pin. Putted to within 4 feet and then putted in for another bogey.

The number one handicapped hole is number 9. It is a par 5 playing about 495 yards today. I used a driver and pushed the tee shot out right and ended up in the number 1 fairway with about 320 yards to go to the green. I used a 3 wood and hit to the left edge of the fairway about 100 yards out from the green. Actually, the golf ball ended up about 2 inches into the rough off the fairway. I used a pitching wedge to the middle of the green and about 36 feet from the pin. Putted to 8 foot and putted to 1inch. I tapped it into the hole for another bogey.

By my calculations, I played the front nine at 10 over par. This is about normal for my golf round where I expect to shoot around bogey. Now on to the back nine.
